Any advice on how to fix this? Makee the hole bigger towards the middle of the door by sawing? The body of the latch is fix in length so I can't adjust itt. It looks about a quarter of an inch longer. Thanks.

sure you cant adjust the bolt length? most have a twist adjustment to fit either a commercial spacing or residential.

If not, just buy a new knob/bolt. If you elongate the knob hole the cover wont hide the gap to the left (as shown).

Can we see a pic of the bolt assembly outside the door?

    Thinking about getting this

Cutting the hole bigger towards the center of the door, kind like making the hole wider. Would that be a problem?

Cmonkey, the knob cover seems big enough to cover the hole if I made it wider.

Or I'll just need to replace with a shorter latch. It's a hassle to return the knob as I bought it at amazon with a gift card. I kinda enjoyed the DIYs lately.

It probably won't fit right and will be wobbly and wonky.

Get the right part and don't bubba your door.

IF you feel like cutting a door and insist on commercial hardware, go buy a blank door and cut it to the right spec. Thats the only way to do it right with the hardware you have.

Luckily our maintenance guy at work gave me a shorter latch. I'll try it when I get back home. Thanks guys for chipping in.
