Navy Boxers.....

My dad was a Navy pilot in the late 40s early 50s and he mentioned he was also one of the ships' boxers.
Growing up I recall some shows and movies that had scenes of military boxing matches going on.

Is this still a thing? Did each Navy ship have a champ that would then fight other ship champs and so on? I'm also assuming this wasn't just a Navy thing but I only recall it being mostly in the Navy and a bit in the Marines. (I know they are supposedly Navy but some Marines will deny that)

There was still boxing, wrestling, football and a couple other organized leagues as of 2014. Cant speak for nowadays.
