I have a brass hinge that I need to replace. Unfortunately, it's $150 to replace what is obviously a weak point. Would brazing work? Keep in mind, this is on a metal brake and it's under a lot of stress. If brazing won't make it as strong, then replacing it is the only option. So, will brazing make it as strong?

If it's under a lot of stress, I would first try some relaxation techniques, like meditation. ;)

You could try grinding a bevel on both sides and filling the entire void, but I’m gonna say it’s time to replace.

With the right rod and enough heat it should work. For the heat, at least oxy-MAPP, better yet, oxy-acetylene. It's amazing how strong brazing can be,
