That looks like ammo/explosives cooking off. No fireball like a BLEVE, and very energetic

Wonder how many of the dead will be

I'm seeing reports it was a fireworks warehouse. There were a lot of flashes before the main bang. Still have a hard time believing that main explosion was from fireworks.

There was a flash of ignition in the air above the building prior to the BIG BOOM. That was huge. Almost didn't even look real.

The scale is hard to make out, but that had to be about a 15-20 story building to the left of the smoke? Well, it was.

Resembled a FAB blast, to me.

Another explanation from the media
The explosion may have been caused by an incident at a firework factory, which ignited a nearby nitrate warehouse, it has been reported.

A "fireworks" warehouse. In Beirut. Exploded.

Okaaaaaaaay.

The explosion happened just days before a United Nations tribunal is expected to issue its verdict for four alleged Hezbollah members accused of killing former Lebanon Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in a 2005 car bombing on the Beirut seafront, the BBC reported.

Some reports said there might have been a second blast Tuesday across the city near the Hariri family residence.
