If a guy were leaving on a cruise out of the Port of New Orleans, is it legal (or smart) to leave a firearm locked in a vehicle for a week? I'd lock it in a vehicle safe while sitting, but I'm not even sure if you can have a weapon in the port area. I did some research with my ccw app and did not see any specifics regarding that particular area.

For my own information, I called the harbor police station at the port. The officer said as long as it is left in the automobile there will be no problem. He said taking it in the terminal is a whole other deal that causes issues. So now I know I'm good to go.

You could also check out banks down there for a safety deposit box. But if you trust the safe in your car, and I'm not saying you shouldn't sounds like you're good to go.

Parking near the dock is expensive. I used to get a week pass at Krauss and company and then take a cab to the dock but Krauss is no longer in business.
