~7.85% of the city population may lawfully own a firearm.

Wonder what percentage own a firearm unlawfully?

Imagine what the percentage growth would be if people didn't have to jump through so many hoops to obtain a license.

This was a 50% increase in spite of Illinois and Chicago's ridiculous gun laws. I find it impressive.

So a lower percentage of the people in Chicago can legally own a firearm compared to the number of people in IN that can legally carry a handgun?

By almost double, IIRC. I think we have 15% or so of the adult population.

Chicago will never have very high numbers of people lawfully able to carry. A huge percentage of the population have police records which will not ever allow them to carry legally.

The other problem with Chicago is that it's infested with liberals who are scared to death of guns. Not criminals with guns mind you but just the guns. So there will always be plenty of targets for the criminals to practice on.

But it's encouraging to see people in IL not just able to but actually exercising their 2A protected rights! I think it will take a while but ultimately will make Chicago a safer place.

I watched the house floor debate when the CCW law was passed and Chicago area Rep Mary Flowers "D" actually used this as part of the reason she would vote against the bill. Too many people in her district were felons and would not be able to obtain a CCW.

Yep, that's the number I heard also.
Which is actually pretty sad. For them. Well sad for us that it's only 15, but worse for them.

<handwaggle> Fifteen percent is not bad. On average, that's about one of every six or so adults. Of course, that could always be improved.
