Armed good Samaritan stopped Hike-and-Bike trail sex assault, affidavit says | KVUE.com
Rape whistles always seem to be the favorite device of the anti-serious-self-defense crowd.
But wait, there's more:
Dude had a gun and a flashlight while jogging. Well done.
This is interesting. The former Chief of the APD, Art Acevedo, was not a fan of armed citizens. He especially opposed campus carry. When asked about women on campus defending themselves with handguns against rape, he was not in favor of that, said "there are lot of resources" to help them, presumably after they have been raped. Given the apparent ages and the location of the incident (south of UT campus), these very well might be UT students/staff/faculty.
Interesting that the article never mentions if Williams had a License to Carry or not.
According to the affidavit for [suspect] McEachern, the woman told police she was running eastbound on the trail when she heard loud steps approaching behind her. Police said he grabbed her from behind and fell on top of her on the ground. The affidavit said he put his hand over her mouth and repeatedly said, "shh, it's me baby, it's me" as she tried to scream and use a whistle to call for help.

But wait, there's more:
A nearby jogger, later identified by police as Joshua Williams, heard the woman scream [not whistle?] and ran over to help. Police said Williams pointed his flashlight on the victim and the attacker and pointed his gun at the suspect, demanding he get off the victim. The attacker stood up, naked from the waist down, police said.

[Assistant Austin Police Chief Joseph] Chacon thanked Williams and other joggers who cared enough to stop and help. He said many people would have chosen not to get involved, which may have contributed to the number of unsolved sexual assault cases in the past few years.

The attack happened the previous Friday. The dude was found two days later -- (still?) naked from the waist down. Erk. Other articles mention witnesses estimating he was 5'10" or so, and 225 or so, with "lots of rolls." Eewwwww.On Monday, police said they found McEachern -- naked from the waist down -- sleeping near the trail in the area of the attack. He was identified in a photo lineup after he was taken into custody, police said.
