I have been wondering if it would be of any use to write the HS principal and ask for permission to conceal carry at games, plays, etc.
I would be willing to meet with the police, the school resource officer, etc.
I would not be open carry as the police do. I would conceal and not mention it.
I just fear with a huge group like a basket ball game, the bad guy can do a lot of damage before the single officer has time to respond. We all know the bad guys don't follow the law, so I would like to be able to protect, but...do it legally.
Any one have any thoughts on this or any suggestions on how to proceed?

Question: Can an off-duty officer carry to a function at a school? Such as a graduation event or the like.
Yes, the state law does not specify on/off-duty, only that we are law enforcement. The only place I cannot carry in Indiana are jails and Casinos, that I can think of off the top of my head.

Is the casino thing unique to officers? From what I understand, it's not illegal for everyone else, regardless of policy?

Everyone. Only officers carrying out official duties may carry into an Indiana casino. As Donnie Baker says: State Law, Man!

From Indiana Administrative Code (IAC 68-1-7-1):

    (b) An enforcement agent may carry a weapon in the casino. A law enforcement officer or a federal enforcement officer:
    (1) whose sole purpose for being in the casino is the performance of official duties; and
    (2) who has advised the enforcement agent or the commission that the officer will be in the casino;

    (c) The casino licensee shall post a sign in a prominent place at the point of passenger ingress stating, "No weapons areallowed beyond this point. Failure to comply with thisrule may result in immediate removal from the casino, immediate detentionby security personnel, the imposition of civil penalties, or exclusion under applicable law.".

shall be allowed to carry a weapon in the casino.

... Really? I've seen some threads here on INGO talking about carrying at Indiana casinos, talking about policy, and reciting the "concealed is concealed" mantra. Not sure I'd use that with regards to schools, but if it's truly illegal in Indiana... I wouldn't imagine that many people would allude to felony on a public message board.

I just looked up the Indiana Administrative Code provision, and edited my post. Ejection and exclusion (i.e. trespass warning) are the remedies. So, state law (which allows the IAC) and no felony.

Casinos are not "illegal", but against Administrative Code. You can be asked to leave and face civil (not legal) penalties.

Alright yeah, this is more in-line with what I thought. So it goes back to my previous question... I'll just assume cops are more pressured to follow the Administrative Code than civilians.

THe superintendent was wrong. However, as an employee, they can dictate if he carries on their property or not. So, rock and hard place.

IC 35-47-9 Chapter 9. Possession of Firearms on School Property and School Buses

They wanted him to have a gun when they wanted, but not when they don't. Aren't they special?

Having it both ways when it's convenient for you, regardless of anyone else's concerns, is Douchebaggery 101. The basic course.
