If you follow the links in that article, one will also find this:

Around the same time [as incident in OP], a 55-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning his gun in the Gage Park neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
The man, who has a concealed carry license, was in the 5600 block of South Christiana Avenue when he shot himself about 6:10 p.m. and went in a private vehicle to Holy Cross Hospital. His condition was stabilized.

    Whoops.

A lot of IN LTCH owners roll those same dice. A lot of eyes will be watching the developments.

National Reciprocity may be the answer to crime in Chicago. Just sayin.... Probably work better than blue helmets.

There's never been a better time to write a strongly worded letter to Joe Donnelly about how you'd really like to not get murdered in Chicago due to a dearth of adequate protective measures.

As much as I don't want to see an otherwise innocent, law-abiding person crucified over a morally upright shooting, more attention on this case could certainly be a big boon to the national carry cause.

Would a prosecutors decision not to charge be a de facto stamp of approval? It would be nice to see each case judged on the merits of being a good shoot regardless of where the shooter was licensed.

Your state of residence should not be what determines your right to defend your life. It shouldn't have to come to a court case to address this question, much less should this guy be raked over the coals in court after what he just lived through and survived.

Would all of the personal defense insurance policies cover this guy even though he was illegally carrying at the time?

It would have no affect on the gangs, which is a huge part of their problem.

I suspect you're correct, to a point: no DIRECT affect on the gangs. However, if and when more people legally carry, and with a few more perpetrator ventilations, such as this one, behavior gets modified. However, it is a slow process.

In my little corner of Morgan County, a halfway nice weekend afternoon sounds like you are just outside a shooting range. I suspect because it is well-know that most homeowners in this area are armed, we have a relatively low burglary rate.

On the other hand, maybe knowing the victims are more likely to be armed will increase the risk-taking and aggressiveness of the gang-bangers' attacks.

I just fear for the kind of difficulty the victim in this case will suffer, because, Chicago.

ISPRA is standing by. Hopeful that Indiana resident is not prosecuted for exercising his right of self-defense.

This incident shows the inherent unfairness of allowing some states to deny civil rights. May this become our Heart of Atlanta.
