I wonder where he got the data on these indicators from. I'd like to read some of the research.

Good call on being careful about reading the indicators. I definitely do several of them: fidget, make fists; blade; act busy.

Here's a good example of several of these on display and strung together in a real world scenario.

Awareness buys you time, and time buys you options.

Some good points...and if someone is truly aware of what's going on in their surroundings, they won't be 'surprised' by a B-G, which is one of the B-G's biggest assets, in his/her attempts to carry out their intended crime.
Also, making eye contact (not staring)...acknowledging the B-G's presence, letting him know that you know that he is there, can go along ways towards thwarting a potential attack/crime per B-G!
Awareness, first, is a key element in giving your self adequate time to be able to respond to an attack in a proper manner, and may even aid in simply avoiding the attack in the first place!

Awareness is very important. That said, there might not be enough awareness to be had against a planned attack. They might even use your awareness as a distraction.

Another reason why I highly recommend anyone that carries a gun for self-defense take a FoF class. Mindset Labs offers a very cost effective FoF class that puts you in these very situations, albeit in a safe, nobody gonna get dead for realz way. Hopefully, Shay is working on a new venue for Pleasantville.

There does not exist an individual who can function in society who is capable of maintaining that level of awareness all of the time.
