Not even sure where to begin. If you look like that in an incredibly violent place like Baltimore, you better be armed and look angry as hell. I can't believe this guy doesn't get robbed every day by little old ladies.

One of the newest top additions to the Baltimore Police Department was robbed at gunpoint alongside his wife over the weekend, according to officials.

Deputy Commissioner Daniel Murphy and his wife were walking Friday night around 9 p.m. near Patterson Park in the southeast part of the city when a white SUV with four people inside pulled up next to them, police told FOX Baltimore.

Two black males, believed to be about 18 years old, then got out of the vehicle and showed a handgun while demanding the victims hand over their property, police said.

The two suspects then fled with a purse, wallet, cash and multiple cellphones

Murphy, who is listed as the deputy commissioner for the compliance bureau in a Baltimore Police Department organizational chart, was hired earlier this year by Commissioner Michael Harrison. Murphy previously worked as the deputy superintendent of compliance for the New Orleans Police Department, where the two previously worked together, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Murphy was hired to oversee the Baltimore Police Department's compliance with its federal consent decree and told the Baltimore Sun in April the two cities face similar issues.

In addition to a police department that's distrusted by many residents, Charm City has seen a mix of chronically high rates of violent crime. The city of Baltimore is one of the most dangerous in America, according to the FBI, totaling more than 300 homicides for four years running.

    .
At some point in police hierarchy do you stop carrying/qualifying with a gun? I was always under the impression that you had to regardless of rank, maybe that's different in other places.

Are we just assuming he wasn't carrying? I didn't see anything in the news articles saying he wasn't carrying. Possible he didn't fight back? Maybe he was surprised and didn't want to draw from the drop...?

Just because there weren't shots fired and the robbers were successful doesn't mean he wasn't armed, right?

I won't comment on his looks, however, he apparently was not prepared at all. He is lucky he and his wife were not hurt, or worse.

If you are Master Deputy Garo Brown, people will avoid conflict because he's bigger than most humans. If you are Frank Hamer, people will avoid conflict because of the demeanor and seriousness. If you have eyes that remind people of Charles Manson, people will avoid conflict because crazy and evil should be avoided. If you are Chuck Norris, nuff said.

The rest of us have to use situational awareness and be prepared for what life brings. Here in the Great State of Indiana there's a significantly greater chance that Where's Waldo in a suit is armed (not to mention Mrs Waldo could be armed too.) Combine that with SA and a serious look? Mr and Mrs Murphy come back from 16th and Tibbs, or 42nd and Post with their wallets and cell phones. I'm talking mid-day, not after midnight or anything crazy.

Baltimore sounds like east-side Indy meets Cleveland times 3. Combine that with Draconian gun laws and a Police force that's been made null and void? Waldo may want to consider these things.

How do we know he (and/or his wife) wasn’t armed? Are we assuming that if he had been armed he wouldn’t have been robbed?

Excellent point, although I find a reasonable suspicion that had he been armed, either the robbery would not have happened or else a gun would have been in the list of stolen items.
