My daughters are going through confirmation at our United Methodist Church. As part of that the youth group and parents are taking field trips to churches of other faiths so that the children can see how those of other faiths worship. Our next trip is to Sha'arey Yeshua Messianic Jewish Synagogue in Indianapolis. I'm trying to find out if I can carry there or not. Anyone know if they allow or prohibit carry?

    Thanks.

I doubt highly they employ any metal detectors. Dress well and deep conceal and you will probably be OK. Especially since you are escorting a group of kids, you will be MUCH lower on their radar.

There are some synagogues that are anti gun, but more and more are waking up to the fact that its counterproductive and they need to protect themselves. If it were me I'd deep conceal and ask for forgiveness rather than permission. you aren't by any chance on your church's safety team are you? If so and you are found out, that would be a great excuse. Im carrying on "Official Business" ;)

    Good luck.

On a related note, is there a group your church is a part of for this cooperative exploration? I'd love to take my kids to the various houses of worship to "see how the other half lives", but I have no idea where to start. Especially as homeschoolers, we seek out new experiences for them whenever possible.

Our church doesn't have a security team right now, but I know a couple of us carry. They do have a security plan. I've been thinking about suggesting a security team.

Our church isn't part of a group in regard to the field trips. Our pastor just reached out to other faith leaders in other churches to set up the trips. This will be the second. The first was a Catholic Church. I have to say as a parent it has been interesting and I've learned a few things.

Is there a school or day care on that church’s property? If you and your kids are going when it’s not during a service, that could be a problem—legally (if they do).

Never heard of Jews For the Preservation of the Second Amendment?
Do you mean Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO)? If so, then yes. I wasn't sure where this particular synagogue stood on the issue.

If you are allowed to have a firearm there, they would probably appreciate you doing the Israeli Carry.

You know- When in Rome. :):

Israeli carry" is a colloquial term that refers to carrying a semiautomatic pistol with a loaded magazine inserted into the pistol but without a round in the chamber. If a person has to draw, they must actuate the slide as part of their presentation of the pistol in order to be ready to fire.

FWIW the congregation you're talking about is "jews for jesus". If you want to visit REAL Jews--in a 2A friendly enviornment--I suggest contacting either Chabad Lubavitch of Indianapolis or Congregation Etz Chaim (for a sephardi/mid eastern flavor). Stick around for lunch and conversation too, it's great in either place.

If you have any questions, send me a message---but by early afternoon because I'll be radio silent over the Sabbath.

Thank you all for the replies. The field trip went very well and was enjoyable for all. Everyone in the congregation was friendly and welcoming. In fact it was probably one of the most welcoming congregations I've ever seen.

The rabbis and church leaders made a point to welcome us and explain things so that we could follow along.

My wife and I found the service interesting and learned quite a bit from it. The kids all enjoyed it, but they got a little bored by the end. It was longer than what they are used to.

There were signs on the door saying visitors could be searched, but none of us were searched. I had opted for deep concealment and had no issues.

    Thank you all again.
