Well you are welcome to OC or CC at any of the PIT STOP SMOKE SHOPS, they are located in Valparaiso (rt 30 by the Viking Chili Bowl), Merrillville (at the corner of US 30 and 55) and St John (on US41 across from Walgreens).

Be warned, you may end up in a long conversation with the store owner about your gun (if he is in the store). And if you are carrying anything other than a 1911 you will get a good ration of grief!!!

But if you want some excellent cigars from the high end Sol Cubano Artisians to mid-priced brands like Ghurka, Macanudo or Partagas, to the low priced machine made cigars, the Pit Stop stores are gun friendly.

Another gun friendly place is the HOT DOG CART located in downtown Crown Point on Courthouse Square. There are 2 carts, the gun friendly cart is located on the Northwest Corner of the square.

The owner of the cart does gun shows on the weekends and his wife, also a LTCH holder, who usually runs the cart sales, can probably out draw and outshoot most tactical officers! There were about a half dozen of us out there last week eating hot dogs, carrying guns and generally having a nice lunch talking about the merits of DuraCoat, Colt ARs, etc.

Might want to be careful about kid-friendly places like the zoo and IMA... doesn't the code include places that are used as a "school function" ?

    (IANAL)

There have been MANY discussions just about this subject. Although the law is not real clear there seems to be a difference between a facility that a school uses for a function (e.g. renting a room for a sports banquet) vs. a school visiting a "public" facility.

BTW the Indianapolis Zoo is a “private” organization:

The Indianapolis Zoological Society is a private 501(c)3 organization governed by a Board of Trustees.”

Conseco says no guns allowed in the entrance. They have you open up your jacket, but if you can conceal your gun half way decent, then you wont have a problem ;)

POSTED at the front doors that "Carry" is allowed. Open or Concealed.
    -----

I'd like to point out the irony of "CCW" being used. "Concealed Carry Weapon"... weapon and firearm and handgun are not the same things in the eyes of the law. Coming from FLA it's more obvious than someone whose had a LTCH and heard everyone call it a CCW. LicenseToCarryHandgun In FLA we had CCW licenses.

    Differences?
CCW- you can carry a concealed weapon. Handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives, batons, expandable batons, and many other devices considered as weapons by the state.

LTCH- License to carry a handgun. Period, no rifles, shotguns, ASP's... just a handgun.

I'm not normally anal about terms, but unlike the magazine vs clip argument, not knowing the difference can get you thrown in jail and possible loss of your Right to own a firearm, let alone prison time.

And yes, most weapons are ILLEGAL to carry concealed in the state of Indiana, regardless of your LTCH.

I think this really should be a sticky. Good info.

Is there any update on Verizon? We are going to an upcoming concert and would like to carry.

    Thanks

I went to the zoo last weekend. I gave them a phone call to see where they stand. You are supposed to leave it in the parking lot. I won't say whether I did or did not comply. I did see a few armed security guards.

Edit: Yes to the sticky. I can see how this thread could be helpful as it grows.

I was there last night for Rascal Flatts( God help me) and per typical, they do a half-assed pat down. I go out there enough that I don't carry a firearm into the venue, but a knife is another story. ;)

I was there too. The pat down by the 18 year old girl was laughable. ;)

Waist 1 to 3, 9 to 11 and barely on the front and cargo pockets.

4 to 8 o'clock positions, back pocket, ankle or smartcarry would not have been a problem.

Victory Field doesn't have signs posted but I'm pretty sure firearms are frowned upon. Security checks ladies handbags at the gates, I've been scanned with a metal detector before.

    It's hit or miss.
