Does Indiana issue a firearm Permit or License?
Indiana Code (IC) 35-47-2-3 states "application for license to carry handgun" as such Indiana issues a license to carry handgun not a permit. IC is silent on how you must carry your firearm. You can open or conceal carry your firearm.

Where can I not carry a firearm in Indiana?
IC 34-28-7 states that a firearm cannot be carried:
    - In or on school property [1]
    - On a school bus
    - Commercial/charter aircraft
    - Controlled access area of airport
    - During annual State Fair
    - Shipping ports
    - A riverboat casino

[1] IC 35-47-9-1 allows one to carry a firearm while in a vehicle that is transporting a person to/from school. You must remain in the vehicle.

Can I carry a firearm inside a bar?
Yes IC 34-28-7 does not list it as a prohibit place.

Can I drink alcohol and carry a gun?
Yes, Indiana Code is silent on this issue. This means there is no law.

If I am inside business "XYZ" and told I have to leave because I have a gun do I have to since that business is not listed on IC 35-47-9-1?
Yes because you are on private property (business "XYZ") and have been told to leave. If you refuse then you can be arrested for trespassing under IC 35-43-2-2.

Can I carry my firearm inside my car visibly?
Yes, Indiana Code is silent on this issue. You carry your firearm on you, in plain view or concealed in your car.

I have a word file that prints out landscape with this info to place in your wallet if anyone wants it. Good quick info for when you have to deal with uninformed people about the IN laws. Got this idea from another thread on here about a guy getting hassled by the DJ of a bar. The DJ said it was illegal to carry in a bar and to drink alcholo.

Just have to ignoore the idiot's out there.

Even if you had just misquoted the law to the person who handed you that paper? Remember, you weren't given that paper until you have spewed off mis-guided info.

I carry this in my wallet as well; for the exact same reason, but more-so for the instances (that have been well documented here) where a LEO doesn't even know what he/she is enforcing.

It sounds silly, but it's one thing to have it all typed out; it's a whole different thing when you have the easy-to-find statutes printed right next to those same laws.

    This ^....

If the cops were called per the DJ and you had to explain to the cop the issues you can at least point to him/her the IC you are referring to as oppose to hoping that the cop knows what the IC is. Cops can't know all the ICs!

I have heard of people that printed the law's straight from the net and it meant nothing to the LEO.

To me I am not going to care about some card that someone types up. Id pay more attention to something printed from an offical site but even then some people are really good with photo shop.

Id just print off the IC number's and say here you go, go GOOGLE haha.... again some cop's don't like to be told the law or given the law.

It cannot hurt to have this information with you. Whether someone believes you or not......it is the law and if they don't accept it, it will eventually become clear to them. Thanks jediagh.

Pami I could NOT find the FAQ threads for the life of me tonight. Looks all over the place and then just gave up. Yes the FAQ have the info but I wanted something that was small enough to put in my wallet to carry around. The WORD file I did fit that bill so to speak.

aaahhhh I understand know. Cool & Thanks.
Still my point is that I could not find that FAQ page. I know that most of the MODs have the link on their signature but it's not on the FAQ page.

What I mean is this. The FAQ at the top right goes here:
    INGunOwners - FAQ

    Yet Pami's FAQ goes here:
    https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...discussion/16185-ingunowners_faqs_sticky.html

The info in that FAQ is not on the main FAQ. The top FAQ deals more with "admin related" items to the board while Pami's FAQ deals more with the common gun ? in IN. Perhaps a link in the main FAQ to that other post is needed as well.

Granted you are still going to get people that will aks and re-ask the questions. :D

Yes UNLESS the church only offers "sunday school" (ie bible classes for kids or CCD) then you are OK. If however as you stated the Church has some sort of daycare (you pay & they watch your kids) then the Church is considered a "school" per IC. Not sure if I know of any church in my area that offers daycare (at the church).

Might want to add in that Indiana law is silent on rifle or shotgun carry. However long guns designed to be fired with one hand (ie Pistol grip shotgun) are considered as pistols under Indiana law.

The only IC that covers shotgun or rifle carry has to do with carrying on a recreational vehicle (ie quad).

Sporter I stayed away from the long guns because the IN LTCH deals only with handguns and did not want to "mix" the 2 type. Plus I don't see too many people walking around with long guns slung around their backs. In the places where this (long gun carry) is common is in "country" where the gun-culture *IS* more understood.

Actually, there IS a link from the big green FAQ button at the top of the page. vBulletin conspired against us, however, and it's a bit of a process to get to the INGO FAQ as opposed to the vBulletin FAQ.

    So... the steps.

    1. Click on the green FAQ button.

    2. Click on the link that says "The Official INGO FAQ (START HERE FIRST!!!)"
    faq1.jpg

    3. Click on the link that says "Click here for the INGO FAQ!"
    faq2.jpg

    4. Find your question in the resulting INGO FAQ page. There is a Table of Contents in the first post, or you can peruse the whole FAQ at your leisure.
    faq3.jpg

It might surprise you, but there's even an INGO FAQ entry on how to get to the INGO FAQ. https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...16185-ingunowners_faqs_sticky.html#post483029

Most Moderators actually have a link to the FAQ in their signatures. Just find a post by a Moderator and click the link!

Or, if you can't seem to find a post by a Moderator, you might try actually clicking the big green FAQ button on the far right of the button links at the top of every single page. On that page, click the super-sized, bolded link that says, "The Official INGO FAQ (START HERE FIRST!!!)." Once you click through to the next page, click the super-sized, bolded link at the top of the page that states, "Click here for the INGO FAQ!"

I know that seems really complicated, but the FAQ button at the top of every single page simply goes to the standard vBulletin forum FAQ, which has absolutely nothing to do with this particular INGO forum.

    Don't make me kick you.

Seriously, jedi, thanks for pulling the codes together. They're sprinkled here and there throughout the FAQ, but I think you have the most comprehensive and concise list on here yet. :)
