For your consideration here is an original US PROPERTY marked US Air Force M16 Model 604as can be proven by the serial number range and the roll stamp markings. This rifle went through a arsenal rebuild inthe early 1980’s at Anniston Army Depot (ANAD)and at that time was updated tothe new “A1” configuration and was hand stamped with “A1 MOD” on the receiverafter the original “M16” designation. Probablythe most interesting part of this rifle is that it is listed as beingmanufactured by Colt Firearms Company /EG&G. EG&G is a well-known defense contractorfor the U.S. Government ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EG%26G). The rifle also lists on the Form 4 onthe second line of the manufacturing block as being registered by the IdahoNational Engineering Laboratory a federal laboratory under the direction of theDepartment of Energy (DOE) as of 1977. This was/is a nuclear reactor testing facility in the Idaho desert. Now called the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) it is an 890-square-mile (2,300 km2)complex located in the highdesert of easternIdaho, between the town of Arco to the west and the cities of Idaho Falls and Blackfootto the east.Much of current knowledge about hownuclear reactors behave and misbehave was discovered at what is now IdahoNational Laboratory. John Grossenbacher, current INL director, said"The history of nuclear energy forpeaceful application has principally been written in Idaho." More than 50reactors have been built by various organization at what is commonly called“the Site,” including the ones that gave the world its first usable amount ofelectricity produced from nuclear power and the power plant for the world’sfirst nuclear submarine. Although many are now decommissioned, these facilitiesrepresent the largest concentration of reactors in the world. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idaho_National_Laboratory )This rifle is in very excellentcondition and even through it does have some hickeys on the finish from brass ejecting. It has very little wear to the original Coltbolt carrier group and the fire control group. The owner has a second fire control group that comes with the rifle thatmay be the rifles original group. Thisrifle is a fully automatic weapon and is currently on a Form 4 in Indiana. Buyers are responsible for all NFAtaxes.
