I've been told you can, and you cannot, suppress a .45-70 (I have a spare barrel for an Encore). I'm sure the issue is that with the large gas volume of a full-house load, it would not suppress very well with the .45 ACP suppressors out there.

HOWEVER, many folks shoot a 'cat-sneeze' load from their .45-70's, putting out a heavy-for-caliber 500+ grain bullet at 900 fps, and I'd think that wouldn't be particularly difficult to suppress, even with a 'pistol' suppressor.

    Anyone done such a project?

Also - would the .458 vs. .452 bullet diameters make a difference...?
(I suppose I could always use a dowel rod and fine sandpaper to open up those extra 0.003 inches of radius...)
