    The official INGO Chop-In 2012

    Have any questions, ask here.

We will have the chopping/cutting competition setup again this year, the throwing log is always setup, :D So bring your Choppers, folders, hawks, and steel to show and tell.

Ok, I got the date of this event. What about time and place?

The Chop-In will take place at my home in western Morgan County and we will start at 10am.

First question, Will you have a physician on retainer this year?

First comment, I am pretty much in for this one.

Second question, Are multiple entries allowed?

First answer, no :D waiver at the gate and you must follow the rules!

I'm happy to hear you would like to come, it will be fun!

Second answer, :dunno: for attendance or the chopping/cutting compitition?

I wouldn't mind watching but I won't take the place of a chopper.

I don't know if I will chop but I definitely want to increase my "steel IQ"

The chopping event is a highlight of the Chop-In but is not what the whole event is about. It's as much if not more about learning why you want to know what kind of steel your knife is made from, it's heat treat, grind, just to name a few.

I don't have a chopper knife, but I'd love to come. Count me in if observation is permitted!

Anyone that wants to compete in the chopping competition is welcome to use any of my knives.

If you don't want to compete that's fine too, there will be plenty of things to do and see.

Wow, that is enough to get me to want to attend. I am a poor boy with a lack of big quality knives.

Do you guys have any rules?

Like do you have different weight classes?
Both for the weight of the person chopping and the weight one the knife.

Just curious to know if a big dude can bring a huge knife and compete against a skinny guy with a smaller and lighter blade.

If I come I have no chance to win against you or Que, even if I use a chain-saw. :):

You could have a competition for knives under a certain blade lenght (like 4" and under, which is I think about the average for medium size pocket knives).

Folders 4" or under, folders above 4", fixed blade 4" and under, fixed above 4". :dunno:

With the small folders you can do a water buttle cut competition and maybe cut some soft materials like rope, seatbelt material and such.

You might be surprised at how well you could do, it's more technique then strength/weight.

Good ideas, I really like the rope and seatbelt cutting, thank you Sir.:)

    No problem.

Those folders are not tough like fixed blade so you have to look at all the soft materials options you have and leave the wood and such to fixed blade.

I tried batoning with a folder once, it didn't go well and nobody wants to destroy his knife during a competition.

Carboard is also a great material to test the sharpness of a knife.
Like those hard carboard tubes or regular cardboard.

Stab tests are also good to do with several layers of cardboard, it's safer with fixed blades obviously but I also do them with all my folders to test the lock.

Cutting phone books can be an option for both fixed and folding blades.
