If you haven't been to Indiana's oldest bar, and if you like live blues at it's best, good food and really cool atmosphere, you need to treat yourself. I went over the weekend and seriously enjoyed all of it.

There was one wrinkle, I had my benchmade knife on my side - no firearm - thought it was covered by my shirt but I guess not. One bouncer, very polite, came over and asked me to take my knife back to my car. I asked him why and he said "because it's illegal".

Well, he was polite, and I understand he's got a job to do protecting the place. I told him I'd be glad to, but they're not illegal. I also told him it's legal to carry a firearm - not that I'm carrying one mind you - in a bar in Indiana. Told him he really should look into it and not take my word for it. I was nice and polite too, then took my benchmade out to my truck and returned. At the time I was having a very good time and didn't want to be asked to leave over a stupid misunderstanding. It kind of begs the question - How many bouncers out there don't know the law regarding knives? There are no posted signs in the Slippery regarding knives, guns, weapons at all - none that I could find.

That aside, EXCELLENT blues, food and a really good time.

Did you talk to the manager? I'd have talked to a manager to verify their policy. If the bouncer is just making people remove their legal tools because he thinks they are illegal, he needs to be educated.

If it really is the slippery noodles policy to not allow guns or knives on their property, that's their business. But I won't support it, and I won't go there...not that I go there anyway. The slippery noodle isn't really my scene.

Although I am a lot more tolerant of people asking me to remove my knife than my sidearm. For a knife, I just step out, unclip it, and slip it in my pocket. I've never actually removed it when asked. But the firearm is another story. If I'm asked to remove it, I let them know that I will not, if they ask me to leave I won't be paying my bill as I haven't finished receiving the service I was paying for, I won't ever be back, and I'll let all of my friends know not to patronize their business either.

Like I said there are no signs of any kind so I really don't think it's the policy of the bar. I think it's a bouncer that's just not up to speed on legal/illegal. Not sure what he thought was illegal about a knife.

When I told him they're not illegal, is there a Slippery Noodle rule against them, he said, "there is now". So, I took that to mean it made him nervous so he was going to have his way no matter what. I'm not saying anything against the bar - I don't think that's their policy. Any other time and I'd have asked to see a manager and get it straightened out, but I just wasn't in the mood. I just wanted to have a good time and let it go. I may follow up with an e-mail to mgt to see if they do have a policy and if so why it's not posted.

I love that place for music. Gene Deer plays there regularly.
I keep my tools concealed and have never had any issues..
If I was J.J. I would have done the same thing. Misunderstanding by a misinformed bouncer. Not worth trashing a good night of Blues.

I spent a lot of time managing the restaurant bar and club business in my early working years. We never let folks OC any weapon. There were always complaints from other patrons that quickly outnumbered the folks carrying.

Private property outweighs licenses, legalities and rights.

    Pocketknives are weapons now?

Glad I've only apparently been in places that don't care. I OC firearms into restaurant bars all the time, never ran into anyone that asked me to cover or keep it out.

Mine are. :) Yes, they all are weapons when they are pulled on you.

    ;) Whatever you say...

    Correct. Their property, their rules.

The question, however, remains.....is Slippery Noodle's policy to ask people carrying knives and/or handguns legally to leave?

As of now, all we know is that there is an ignorant bouncer working there that thinks it's illegal to carry a pocket knife...

Well now hold on brother, for all we know there's an overzealous bouncer that needs training. And - the blues/rock is absolutely the best of any bar anywhere I've ever been. The food is awesome too.

Ah, I was unclear. I should have emphasized that I do not frequent such establishments as I am indifferent about live music shows, especially since I'd probably be wearing earplugs the whole time. Any potential issues with inanimate objects I may have on person just adds to the list of reasons, but is not necessary to make the decision.
