    Electromagnetic coils accelerators are extremely hard to time for maximum efficiency. Since the coil pulls the armature to the center of its magnetic field you must time the "power off" after the armature has reached maximum force before it gets "stuck" in the center of the magnetic flux path. ie. you have to De-energize the the coil almost perfectly.

    But yes, coil guns do exist.

    But with the electricity/ amps they are pushing its more efficient to put that power into a "beefed up taser". At least until Battery Technology greatly improves.

    Read up on rail guns if you REALLY want some power based on electricity/ magnetic fields.
