I received a phone call from one of our Scouts. He was supposed to call me last month. The troop would like to do a troop shoot the weekend of the 19th or 26th. (i think he said the 19th). From my past experience we will probably get between 5 and 10 boys and probably 5 adults. Good news is I am a certified instructor and they have at least 5 certified range officers. We just need to find a place to shoot. Anyone have a range that we can use? Right now our options are:

    A) Indoor ranges
    B) Drive to camp butler (He's checking on that)
    C) Drive to Lake Monroe (He's checking on that)
    D) Atterbury Would work but I would like a smaller venue with less distractions.

The Scouts can only shoot single shot .22's and shotguns. Venture crews can shoot almost anything that doesn't require a stamp.
Scouts insurance will cover this event.

    Thanks
    John

I don't know where your troop is located, but Camp Buffalo is a boy scout camp in Buffalo IN (Sagamore Council) that has a very nice range. You could possibly contact them if it is within a reasonable distance.
    Welcome to Camp Buffalo!

Crossroads of America Council just recently opened (2-3 weeks ago?) a .22 range at Camp Kikthewenund. I don't think there is a shotgun range there, and that will also limit the fun for the Venturers. If you are in CAC, you might give them a holler.

Where are you at? In Dunkirk there is a place called frank merry Park. I don't know much about them but I saw that they were closed a few weeks ago due to scouts camping there. They have a 200 yard range also.

Download a copy of the latest BSA Shooting Sports Manual. It goes into explicit details as to who may run a scout shooting event, and what they can shoot. Bear Creek Scout Reservation in Connersville has or had a suitable rifle range for .22 and air rifles, not suitable for shotgun or pistol. Ransburg as a range, as does Camp K now.

Indy Trading Post would likely be to small for 10 kids and 5 adults since they only have 5 lanes. Does anybody know if you can shoot .22 rifles there?
    Yes, .22 rifles are fine.
Two kids on each lane, one adult to oversee each lane, seems perfect to me!
op, if you're interested, I suggest you get ahold of Brian, and maybe you ccould get in before or after regular hours so you could have the place to yourselves. (not sure he will do that, just an idea)

We have hosted the Scouts before at Eagle Creek Pistol Range. Outdoors - lots of lanes.

And with all respect to ITP, $10 per hour is a better rate than $8 per half hour. We also sell a ten-visit pass for $95, good for all day for only $9.50 a visit - those can also be shared, so they're perfect for groups or families.

    Thanks Guy and everyone else!
We found a private range via this thread. It Is close, outdoors and fits our needs perfectly . Thanks to everyone for the pms and suggestions. I went from scrambling to find suitable place to making a choice between several offers.
It's nice to see there's still a lot of good people out there.

    Thanks again
