My first impression of this is that it is a REALLY dumb idea:

GripShot, The Rail Mounted Serpa Pistol Holster - The Firearm Blog

If I'm wrong, please help me understand the purpose of it.

Problems I see right off the bat are weight and balance. Secondly, it ties your back up weapon to your primary weapon, which makes it effectively one weapon, instead of two.

I'm sure they'll sell the heck out of these, but I can't see any advantage to it. I saw the speed difference, but my bet would be that it would impede the accuracy of the rifle enough that you'll actually need the pistol at that point. It just doesn't make sense to me.

    Edit: Sorry....I Duped. https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...ssion/412985-rail-mounted-pistol-holster.html

You don't want to be one of the cool kids?

I agree with you. It looks like a solution to a problem that does not exist. Not sure they will sell more than a couple hundred, due to all the problems you have already identified.

In the video he did get the rail mounted weapon in use quicker. But, there are plenty of downsides. Lose your primary weapon and you lose the back up as well. Weight and balance would also be a concern as mentioned by the OP. One other minor thing is that you would lose a small amount of clear vision downrange. Your low right would be blocked by the rail mounted sidearm assuming you are right handed like me..

I agree....a bad idea but they will probably sell a few of them.

I think it would be tacticool-er if the pistol was mounted so that you could just shoot it mounted to the fore end, kind of like an M203. Deal me out

Not to mention adding 2-3 pounds to the front of your rifle also seems like a bad idea, in addition to all the issues identified above. Definitely a no-go, ESPECIALLY since you can't shoot it like an M203!
