Aftet reading this frommer stop pistol , I wanted to start a thead about guns, ammo and all things shooting. I really enjoy reading about the history of firearms, success and failures.

So what do you have, seen or read about? Pictures and links would be great.

I'll add a few other threads to this when I find them.

I was just reading about Al Goerg. He was a pioneer in handgun hunting. He was one of the first to put a scope on a pistol. Before the heavy, hardcast bullets were available, he took a 44 magnum hollowpoint and added a round head brass screw to it. This made a very deep penetrating bullet. It was called the Goerg Spearhead bullet.

If you look back at the first model of Canik TP9, it's functionally the same as a P99as. One of the reasons I liked it more than any other TP9 they made. Unfortunately it uses a different magazine than the rest, so it's a bit of an orphan already. Funny enough, I can take a P99 slide and an original TP9 frame and it function checks just fine.

Pancor 'Jackhammer' doesn't qualify for a list of "gun you never knew existed" because IMO it never actually existed... The few you see in museums or at the big gun expos are actually just prop guns made as castings from the one surviving tool room prototype which still sits in private hands. The gun never even went into pre-production. The 'jackhammer' is and was never anything more than a hand made prototype that was immediately disregarded by the few concerns who had enough time to waste to test it.

In contrast to the American 180, which was a commercial production firearm that you could actually BUY pre 1986 - the company that produced them even got a small order from the beuro of prisons. While it was not a run away success, it was a real world firearm.
