I'm stumped. Does anyone have ANY idea who made this high quality AR mag, and what caliber it is, and what weapon it goes to? Thanks.

Looks British SA 80 ish to me.

No, SA 80's are .223 caliber, and use curved mags. This one is straight, and the feed lips are so wide that .223 cases fall right out. The cartridges it was designed to hold had to be based on .308 cases. I'm almost thinking it was a purpose built mag for military rifles chambered in .30 using a short 300 black out length case, but using a .308 diameter case instead of a .223 case, and it has the unique design so that it could not be confused with a standard M16 magazine. Is there a short .30 caliber round out there that uses a .308 case?

I'm thinking early Armalite AR-10, not the ones made today. Look up Sudanese AR-10 and see if any pics pop with a mag like that.
I do know the early Armalte mags had a waffle pattern similar to that.

No, the problem is that the AR10 is in .308 for STANDARD nato cartridges. This one is for rounds tat are the same LENGTH as a .223, but are the DIAMETER of a .308 cartridge. It's like a .308 kurz (short).

That was my hang up. I originally thought waffle Armalite mag. But it's a short action wildcat mag.

The 30 Remington would be too long I'd imagine so there goes one idea...

    30 Benchrest (30 BR) is a shortened 308.
    308x1.5-inch Barnes is another.
30 Remington AR (30 RAR) is a shortened necked-up 284 Winchester (But that's only been around since 2008)

The 308x1.5 Barnes and the Benchrest family (usually 6mm BR) have been around since the 60s. My guess would be that the magazine was intended for those.

Does the magazine fit in an AR?

But the 30 Remington has been around for over 100 years.

The 30 Remington AR is a different/newer caliber
