Wow. That looks like it didn't take much to get into.

And first to mention that it was most likely a burglary and not a robbery.

It could have fallen out of a truck being moved. The seperation of the seams at the corners is pretty severe

I'm by no means a forensic expert, but I do have a lot of experience with sheet metal fabrication. It very much looks like some one pried the side out with a broad bladed pry bar. Perhaps something like this:

    Roughneck Mutt Pro Steel Blade with D-Handle 8 x 4" | Edging Knives & Mutts | Screwfix.com

I would think if this was a 'fell off a truck' issue, there would be more scuffs and scratches like those on the bottom.

Look at the marks in the dirt. It was pushed out onto it's bottom then flipped over on it's back. No signs of sliding or tumbling in either the dirt or on the safe.

Unfortunately most safes these days are all like 11 gauge steel. Easily cut pried or smashed open. 10 gauge should be the minimum you accept. But 7 is better.

Also as others stated make sure it's bolted down and not pry accessible etc

This is a good reminder to put your safe out of view.

I forget the thread where an INGOer was talking about intimidation his daughter's first boyfriend by making sure he seen the gun safe. Hope this wasn't that one...

With you being the consummate professional inquisitive type maybe you'll run across some info on this thing???

Possibly, but if it was taken in a burglary it'll be handled at district level. Without some info, I'd have no way to sort the burglary reports to find this one in particular.
