After much research I am ready order new grips. So my question is anything larger than a GI safety considered an extended safety? When ordering it is asking extended safety cut?

    Thanks

Extended safety will usually require The left grip be fit up to clear.
A GI safety should be good to go but depends on the grips you buy.

What company is this? Are these pretty thick wood grips? Typically you shouldn't have to do anything on the strong side (left grip) unless the grip rides high up the plunger tube. I haven't bought any new grips lately (VZ's, 10-8's etc) where the allowance for an extended safety wasn't built in. If you have a GI safety most any grip should not need a modification.

I have Extended on all my 1911's. Only the Thumb area is extended, where the Safety contacts the frame is not altered. Right side Grips need Cut for an Ambi Safety.

Yeah, you would see that a lot especially if you used an older Wilson Combat ambi that sort of hooked down, with those I had to dress down the top of the grips quite often, especially back in my wood hogue days. As I re-read it though maybe you are referring to the slot in the grip for the lower part of the ambi?

Altamont I hear they make the grips for the Ruger 1911 I really like the qua!ity, so I figured I couldn't go wrong ordering a set from them.
