The chief in question may very well have left his revolving Glock in his holster, since he went to the RR to change his clothes after a town meeting. I am guessing he took off his uniform, put on civvies, and wandered off without his gun. Further speculating that he doesn't carry when not in uniform, so he didn't miss it. Probably not until he went to put on his uniform again. "Lessee, where's that dang heavy thing that's usually hanging off to the right here...um...lessee...when's the last time I know I had it....OH ####!"
