They can't shut down child porn trafficking or identity theft rings on the web...it takes a special ignorance to think they can stop this and it's a legal product.

In metal shop in the 70’s, Mr Wood (yeah, that was his name) specifically prohibited manufacturing of any firearms with school machines or resources.

But he sure liked to talk about it a lot.

For those with the skill (and I’m not one). There really isn’t much of an impediment.

And that was well before CNC.

It's been a few years now, but I recall a Youtube video of some kid who walked into Home Depot and bought like $12 and change worth of steel pipe, some end caps and screws.
    Made himself a home-built slam-fire 12ga single shot.
Not something I'd feel comfortable doing, but feasible.

In the service they taught us how to make home-made napalm from household chemicals.
    "Where there's a will, there's a way".

My dad taught me at a very young age, "If you don't have what you need, use what you have".
Necessity is the mother of invention.

Just imagine if they would concentrate on prosecuting illegal behavior rather than try to ban legal objects.

Good chance for this group to make internet providers look good and feel good while doing really nothing. Between the praise from big media for doing something about the gun problem and getting good publicity they might pick up some extra cash.

The planet is awash with boatloads of military weapons that are used every day to massacre hundreds of people. And somehow legal, law abiding US gun owners with military style rifles are at fault? I have no idea where to obtain explosives to blow up a Mosque in Egypt or obtain full auto firearms and ammo to shoot up the survivors.

I suppose if I was a state sponsored fighter I would be issued all kinds of dangerous stuff. Even in this country.

We are at war. The quicker that is acknowledged, the more people that might survive.

Is there valid evidence that these "... homemade weapons are increasingly being used in crimes"?

Are the gangs taking their time to carefully build an arsenal in the new guy's "home or workshop"?

Typical political knee jerk reaction to an inert object.
Dumb bunnies! Prosecute the bad guys instead of wrist slapping but then again...PC is gonna dumb down another generation and make the rest of society pay for it in the end.

The article offers a single example of this actually happening, an anonymous quote from a "federal official" saying it is happening, and the assurance of a gun-control group that it is a problem that needs addressed. That is probably good enough for California to pass a law, but I may remain skeptical.

The facts never seem to be a friend of these people. It is never the fault of the perpetrator, it is the object every time. It also seems that following the laws we already have is too much to do, so we need more. Go figure.
    Have great day.

When I was a young man in the 1950's, the "firearm" used a LOT in Chicago by street gangs was the Zip Gun. At the time (automakers have changed the radio aerial's design since) one section of any common auto radio antenna was almost a perfect fit for a 22 cal LR. The larger section attached to that was a great fit for the rim of the cartridge. The gang members carried a strong rubber band, and a nail with the point filed to a chisel point. When they wanted to arm themselves they broke an antenna from a car, pulled out the unwanted sections, dropped a cartridge into the antenna, then the nail and adjusted the sections until the nail protruded from the largest section. Then they wrapped the rubber band around 2 fingers, slipped it over the nail and pulled it back. At close range they could kill opposing gang members or any other person they wanted. Many people were killed using these weapons, as most were gang members, there was little public outcry so not a lot of publicity or actions were taken to resolve this issue.

They didn't carry the antenna so the only items they had when searched by the police was a rubber band, a filed nail and 22 LR cartridges. This was not enough to arrest them so this continued for a few years until the automakers changed the antenna design, then they stole or bought enough firearms to arm the gangs.

I'm certain there are other "tubes" or antenna out there that would still work for this purpose, but since they have collections of other firearms today we probably won't see a resurgence of these arms.

Unfortunately, there are always ways to steal or produce weapons and or explosives when a nefarious person wants to perform a criminal act. No laws can or will stop criminals from arming themselves, or killing people. I have not searched but feel sure that there is information on the internet as to how to produce weapons, and explosives etc. Automobiles and trucks have been used successfully to slaughter many innocent victims lately.

here is the problem. When there are more trained good guys.
More bad guys are hurt or stopped DEAD.
Then what will politicians demand more and more money for.
I will bet on a sure thing. The Blumburg types have more people carrying close to them than I own.
