Can a in state firearm sale be treated as a FTF and sent directly to the buyer and not through a FFL, if the person is known, or proper ID is emailed, etc. I think this has come up before, but I couldn't find it.

    Thanks, Dave

Legally, long guns can be shipped person to person in state via USPS.

Legally, handguns can be shipped person to person in state via common carrier eg UPS, FedEx.

All of the above entities have rules against just that, though.

Simple rule to remember: "State lines means FFL required".

Is a state line being crossed here? No, so no FFL is required.

So it's legal, just not possible if you are truthful to what's in the package. If you are not truthful using FedEX or UPS, are there any legal repercussions if found out?

EDIT: Just read the link from the ATF.

Box it up, weigh it, print a label online, drop it off.

    Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy.

Generally I agree and may have allegedly done so in the past. However, given the bolded text below, doing so appears to break the law i.e. not notifying the shipper it is a firearm.

Just this week I went to UPS Customer Center on 86th street to send a package to Taurus in Miami for warranty work. Did this according to UPS rules on web site. Next day Air is their requirement for HG, only to an FFL. Cost was quoted as $91.00!!! Yes you read that correctly $91.00:xmad: Decided to do something differently; either trash product, have a smith look at it, or find another legal way to ship. What it really gets down to is the carriers do not want non FFL persons shipping. Just another form of gun control due to paranoia, or liability lawyers.

Figuring I know the answer, but haven't sent anything to Taurus before. Did they not offer to provide a shipping label?

Get a dealer to ship it via USPS. They can ship it in a Priority Mail package.

What about taking the gun apart, wrapping up the individual pieces, then it's just a box of parts. Or mail the slide assembly and lower frame seperate, still just parts. Similar when sending Glock frames in for work somewhere.

If you still in fact send the part that is the "firearm" such as a Glock frame, which is the part that is serial numbered and considered to be the firearm for a Glock, it is still a firearm. The rest of the parts are not, but the firearm is still a firearm.
