IIRK that was a motorcyclist so probably shot through a helmet...helmet did it's job even if one not originally intended for it.

Lots of people survive head wounds. Remember our own Private Miller of 9th Indiana Inf. Reg. (later 113th Illinois) who took a buck and ball to the head at Vicksburg? He was later awarded the CMH. He lived 50+ years after Vicksburg. Finally passing in 1917.

I've had guys shoot people in the head and had bullets bounce off or skim along the surface. The head, being round, serpentine and usually in motion, is a tougher target than the gun culture believes.

What? The INGO / Guns Illustrated tactical instruction brigade isn't here to school us about shot placement yet?

In "Bullets, Guns, and Gunfights" Jim Cirillo wrote of an incident where a perp surprised 2 officers on a stake-out detail who emptied their revolvers (158gr RNL)into his face. They about soiled their pants when Lazarus sat up, blew a slug out of his nose and asked for a tissue

If he was shot wearing a motorcycle helmet in Brazil, he was probably on his way to shoot somebody.
