I am thinking about buying a 1945 Postal Meter M-1 carbine.
It looks pretty good for its age.
Any opinions on buying it? $849.00

The postal meter carbines have a reputation for initial quality. You’ll have to be the judge of current condition and it’s use history.

I have a post-war rebuild carbine. It’s not historically significant but it’s a fun little range gun to pull out from time to time.

    Could be anywhere
M1 Carbines are fun! Decent power and low recoil. I have 2. I don't have a Postal Meter but mine are both WWII/Korea issue and run just fine.

They are good tools for small people or the recoil adverse. I moved my 12yo daughter up to one from the .22s she learned on. Make a good HD weapon too...

If its in good shape for a reasonable price I wouldn't hesitate.

That's one on my wish list. The gun itself doesn't have to have historical value; it is what it represents that has the cool factor for me.

M1 Carbines are great. And with a couple recent ammo offerings, a very viable option. (Hornady and Underwood)

They weigh only 5.5 pounds, and the round will blow any Pistol Caliber Carbine out of the water.

It it is a good price, I would grab it. That aren't making any new ones.
My M1 Carbine is a NPM also.

I was talking about the MilSurp ones... someone has been making, or attempting to make, new ones ever since the war was over.

I have a Universal M1 Carbine. I would love to have a war model, but I also don't feel bad about scuffing this one up or doing abuse to it.

    Still a great shooter.

I have one from the Korean era.... great little rifle. If the condition is good and the price is decent, you may want to go ahead and pick it up.

With the right ammo, and in the right conditions, they can be an enjoyable deer gun.

What make barrel does it have? Make sure it isnt shot out, and the gas piston is not stuck and ok. Sometimes shooting can free them. They are handy fun little rifles if they are in good shape. I find them in price range of 900.00 and up.

I bought one at Jerry's gun shop in Rensselaer, 'bout 30 years ago. As I remember it's an Inland (its in the safe). Not pristine, but in very good shape as far as bore and mechanical. Can't remember but I think I paid less than $300. Fun gun to shoot and pretty darned accurate!
