He "became barricaded" in the classroom?

Doesn't sound like a negligent discharge situation.

Agreed, and how does one "become barricaded"? That's interesting way to have written the article. Unless someone pushed him into a room to barricade him away from others, it's a strange way to phrase it.

"I'll show them! This is what happens when we arm teachers! We can't be trusted to not just start shooting! Herp-a-derp!"

Whether or not that was his intention, that will be the outcry.

If he was carrying illegally, few will see the obvious: the rule didn't stop him from bringing a gun.

    Respectfully, I disagree.

I think this won't really move the needle at all on this.

Teachers... well, no one, really... should take a gun into a school, barricade themselves, and fire the gun. In any order.

CNN reporting (so make of it what you will).

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/28/us/georgia-dalton-high-school-teacher-gunfire/index.html

Sounds like the guy went a little bonkers and only fired when the principal tried to get in.

The obvious counterpoint is that if he had nefarious objectives, having more armed teachers would seem to be better than having none.

Obvious if you are using logic. Not if you stop at the "fear" part.

I'll put my money on the "Idiot that wanted to prove a point that teachers shouldn't have guns" theory.

I heard this on Dana L's radio show today. I heard it was a lock down. He barricaded him and the students in the room. When the principle tried to open the door he fired through the window. Media over load......?????

I'm also thinking this would not have been national news during most time periods.

Teacher wacks out, does something stupid, no one is hurt.

This is only news because of the gun control argument, IMO>

and it is putting unnecessary fear in teachers and students

Seriously? So when will the conspiracy theories start? This whole thing with “gun violence” is totally out of control. If the USA can give billions of dollars to countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, et al, who would stab, or who have already stabbed the USA in the back why can’t the USA use that money instead for school security. It’s the perverted priorities of idiot politicians that run this country. My head is about to explode!

Well, there's a number of factors, but primarily, "bang for your buck".

How many lives are lost per year in school shootings?
How much will it cost to satisfactorily harden schools?
Will the federal government pay for this and increase the national deficit, or shall we increase property taxes?

Furthermore, what is the psychological impact to this?

And did we hear the rest of the story about the teacher? :dunno:

I didn't see a single tweet about this, or hear a single story about it on the radio.

It must've been a "protest" thing, because the media has no interest in covering it and letting it muddy the currently-succeeding anti-2A push.

It was on Dana's afternoon radio show. School in lock down, LEO presence, teacher barricaded and armed against intruders. Thats how it was put to the audience.
