Can I fire my AR-15 rifle (556) in a pistol lane at Atterbury? I want to practice with both pistol and rifle but don't quite understand the layout there.

Last time I was there in the pistol lanes, they would allow a .22 rifle, but not a 5.56. So, probably not.

It's pretty easy to change lanes at Atterbury. Just go inside and tell them what distance you want to shoot at and they will move tell you which lane is yours. The trick is to time the change to coincide with one of the cold periods so you can be ready to put your targets up on your new lane.

It's been close to a decade since I've been there. So this may not be allowed anymore (and perhaps wasn't actually allowed then, though the RSO knew and once even tried out one of my guns).

When they weren't busy on weekday mornings, I used to set up in two side-by-side lanes in the 50 yard area. I'd set pistol targets at ~10 yards and rifle at 50. Then I could move back and forth between the two as I wished.

But really, bstewrat3 has the right answer. Just ask to change lanes.
