Someone should tell that doofus that an AR15 is a rifle and is used for hunting by some folks. I’m curious what “responsible gun manufacturing” means? To us it would mean turning out a safe and reliable product, but I think the author is implying something different.

Smart business move. Being an Indian owned business would help with lucrative government contracts and grants to pursue "smart" gun tech.

So, while I don't like the parts mentioned above regarding "The Navajo Nation’s plan for Remington was novel: It intended to shift the company away from its consumer business, including curtailing the sale of the AR-15-style weapons frequently used in mass shootings, to focus on police and defense contracts", I did think this part was sounding like a good direction overall for the Navajo Nation:

The tribe saw a purchase of Remington as way to invest in its people, too.
“Navajo has over 70 percent unemployment,” Mr. Ryce wrote. “Over the next few years we would shift the assembly (i.e. lesser trained) parts of the business onto the reservation.”
Over the longer term, he said, the tribe would have created the kinds of small machining operations that supply many parts to the company. “We would establish this specific machining of specific parts on-reservation and assemble and ship the products on-reservation,” Mr. Ryce said.

Investing in an industry that allows them to put (their own) folks to work that need it, would be a good step.

But yeah, the other political aspects behind their offer seem anti 2A, and I'm somewhat surprised (in some ways but not in others) they pushed that agenda in that way in the offer discussion.

Agreed, noticed that info in the article as well (minority and specifically Native American/Indian owned businesses have advantages for these types of contracts).

So they wanted to put to work the unemployed that grew up with unemployed parents and grandparents and expect them to now go to work and be productive and reliable employees? They better get really big Dream Catchers and put them all over that reservation.

I have to admit this was a thought too... but, putting their own $$ into the mix is a start.

Colt and HK are private companies, this thing with the Indian tribe is going to be more along the line of public/private partnership with the government picking the winners. It's irrelevant if they turn a profit or even produce anything as long as the government keeps pouring in the cash.

The business community might be happy with the change in administration in dc, but everybody has to keep in mind that it could all change back to the corrupt, progressive, socialist, over regulated swamp rather quickly. Making long term decisions and major purchases with that hanging over you can be tough. The only sure winners are the ones the government wants to pass out cash to.

Why on earth would they trust government contracts?

There are lots of reasons for the high unemployment in American Indian communities. Laziness isn't near the top of the list.

This sure sounds like overt racism.

This might be one of the most ignorant comments that I've read on INGO.

    And THAT is saying something!

Would it have been more honest if I added by and large mostly drug addicts and alcoholic's to being lazy along with 100 + years of living on the Government Plantation?
And somehow now they are going to show up at work?
Those that want to have made something of themselves either already own a business on or off the reservation or have left the reservation for greener fields of working for someone else.

Along with the note that you sent me, I thank you for the reminder of why so many people along with me, don't post here.
Did you send notification along with your negative comments to the others including the Mod that agreed with me?

What I posted that a few here agreed with is the reality and the truth of the bulk of those that live and stay on the vast reservations in America. I've been on more than a few reservations in my life and in most cases there is nothing their but poverty and despair.

OK fellas. We all have our own opinions on these things. Lets keep it civil please.
I hate the term used upthread. Leave that card in the deck at least until KUT gets back OK.

    Thanks folks.
