Last spring I applied for and was accepted as a volunteer for the 2018 NRA National High Power Rifle Championships being held at Camp Atterbury. Today was check in day for me and I will be here all week as a Line Officer. This will be my first exposure to high power long range shooting. This week is the Mid Range competition. If anyone is here, I will be the white haired guy with the "WOW" expression on his face.

I started off today working in the "Pits". I didn't realize the Pits are behind the berm and under the targets. It is an eye opener at how good these shooters are at 300, 500 and 600 yards. From the line you can't tell if they hit the target or not. It's obvious why this is not a spectator sport.

I was just informed by my wife that I have to volunteer again next year so that she can have "Sister's Week" at our house. On a more fun note, I did get to shoot a
Tikka JRTAC382L T3X TAC A1 6.5 Creedmore and a 1943 M1 carbine. Not on base, but across the road at Atterbury Shooting Complex.

Good on you! You were among some of my good friends that have come from different states to compete. A more down to earth crowd would be hard to find.
