Did a few little things to my favorite 1911. I have really wanted a magwell so I went out on the limb and ordered a Wilson Combat Slip on Magwell. It really turned out nice. It took a bit of triming on the grips. .But I think it was worth the effort.

    The color is a bit off,in the images but in reality it's a good match. IMG_4053.JPG IMG_4049.JPG IMG_4048.JPG IMG_4050.JPG

    And so it begins.
I use Smith and Allen Mag wells. Buy a set of flat bottom grips and trim them to fit.
I built this for the SIL. Guess what his name is...:):
Point here is fitting the grips to the magwell. I have changed these out for a nicer set but you get the drift.

    That is my goal...Someday

Take your time. Tool up as you go. You may by a specialty tool and only use it once or twice but at least you have it.
There are parts/pieces/kits available on many sites but I were in your shoes just modifying existing pieces might be the way to go.
You can do some really neat things to a 1911.

Ok guessing it should be purple? But seriously my SR1911 has been all I could ask for, eats everything, fmj, jhp etc, it just runs. My only wish is that I would have went with all steel version because of the weight.

It hits where you aim it every time. In my book not too bad for an entry level 1911.

Don't know how many would get the 'Smalls' reference, but me & my wife sure did!

She thinks your browser history is full of '1911 Porn' like mine is full of 'Jeep Porn'...

Her comment, in her impression of you,
"OH BABY, Those rosewood grips are turning me on!..."

Keep in mind, she collects brass frame firearms, and carries a reduced size 1911 in 9mm.
She gets it, but she's going to make fun of us anyway.
She works with park rangers, sheriff's office on a weekly basis, this spring the park ranger firearms instructor shot himself in the ass in front of her after making fun of her 'Antique' 1911...

She's been giving him but donuts to sit on, whoopie cushions, Nerf & rubber band guns, at a dinner for park employees she put a cork on his fork...
Pointing out she's been carrying her 1911 'Antique' longer than he's been alive, and never shot herself in the ass.

Yup! She's 'One of the guys', gives as good as she gets!

Well.....at the risk of saying something off base tell her I love her.....:):
And she gets it. My 2 uncles (both Army Rangers) put a 1911 in my hands in summer of 1962. It was Uncle Daves duty weapon. It just fits me.

    She's a keeper!
Good (dry) sense of humor, completely unexpected zingers,

Didn't have to 'Qualify' like the rangers did, so she shot the crotches out of the targets.
When the (half her age) instructor asked her why she shot low, she said "Warning Shots" and walked off,
Everyone cringed since the group was about the size of a silver dollar...
(Then he shot himself in the ass 20 minutes later)

She goes to the gun range to practice, when she's done she breaks out a lawn chair and knits until we are done.
Somehow a woman knitting with a 1911 in her holster is hot...

And BTW, she likes your 1911 and wants to know if it's plated or stainless?
    (Hint: She doesn't like plated)

The one pictured in this thread is Stainless. I do not like plated either. I have 2. The loaded in this thread and a TRP.
