    Could be anywhere
Well, in this case other governments teats.

Why build new guns for the home market when you can sell way overpriced existing models all day long? This will help their bottom line but little else.

Reason #1 why I've never understood how people chase, and lust, and pine after Colt weapons. I'm not saying a Dback or Python hasn't ever been on my list, but particularly for the AR stuff...it's just never really made sense how much premium is sometimes granted to the little pony on the side.

It's not like it's a new phenomenon. Been the same way since about 1840.*

ETA: Beat me to it! Colt wouldn't even exist without Texas' contract.

Colt, Remington-Rand, Ithaca, Berretta, Fabrique National, all have kept my bacon cooking, I did not care what my Uncle Samuel paid to keep me happy.
My first love was a SACO produced PIG, at age eighteen, my constant companion for over two years.
Of course a guy named Kalashnikov made millions of his product and Chinese knockoffs kept me awake at night sometimes too.

And why do we pay $5700 per weapon? Don't we need some of that money to build natural gas gas stations in Afghanistan?

An American company using American workers gets a contract to export rifles. Let the colt bashing begin.
