I saw another article about this, but would be surprised to see it happen... or should say I'll believe it when I see it.

Even the general interviewed said that it would be limited, and that they already have hundreds of thousands of rifles and millions (I would guess billions) of rounds of ammunition that wouldn't be replaced any time soon.

Sounds like the typical Pentagon boondoggle, but I do like the push to improve technology, as long as we have access to it as well.

Its not going to happen any time soon. They first need to find buyers for all the current stock and set sales dates, delivery and package inspection points, payment schedules... maybe 10 years. So by 2030 they will start the phase out / transition. No matter what time line they give, add 5-10 years to that.

Or, we could start a new, or ramp up an existing conflict and use up all the old stock.

We were talking about the CMP selling off the 1911's in the late 1980's...

They started selling them long before that,

    1911s sold thru the DCM/NRA.

    Between 1958 and 1967 , the DCM sold;

    1911/A1 pistols - 145,000
    1911/A1 National Match pistols - 3200

    1903 rifles - 12,000
    1903A3 rifles - 279,000
    M1 Nat Match rifles - 3,600
    M1 rifles - 1,600
    12ga shotguns - 8,800
    M1 carbines - 207,000

I was referring to the current lottery in respect to time frame only, but thanks for the info.

No need to directly participate in any combat, the weapons/ammo can be delivered to proxies or even just given out as aid in exchange for political influence.

I could use some govt aid like that. It might even gain then some political influence.

Me too but that would mean more guns on "their" streets. Besides, if they want political influence over us, they figure they'll just lie to us for our votes...and then tell us to shut up, sit back down on the couch and have another beer

Typical Bravo Sierra by generals who probably would not be able to even find the battlefield in the middle of a war. I even think I saw a comment in a thread here on INGO that the firearms proposals and testing are done in New Jersey at Picatinny Proving Grounds of all places! The most anti 2A state in the country. Just amazing!!!
