Appears my new Capital One card is going in the trash. Formerly Cabelas card. Used it for big purchases basically for the doubling of Manufacturers warranty. Always paid it off before end of billing cycle, never a penny in interest so no revenue there. Much as I hate to lose the benefits it's a matter of principle.

Any other credit card companies that are not anti?

I'm done with Cabelas since Bass Pro take over. Tossing my card in the shredder. Never liked Bass Pro. Sad, Cabelas was my favorite store.

Unfortunately I didn't realize Cap 1 was anti. I went with a different Cap 1 card that offers better rewards in cash.

I too pay it off every month and reap the rewards.

Honestly I just shy away from credit cards, don't wanna risk myself getting into ridiculous debt accidentally (my dad had an issue with going into overdraft with credit cards frequently). All I got is cash, a bank account and a prepaid.

I use my cash back credit card for anything I can and just pay the balance each month. It's free money. Why not?

Thanks for the reminder. I had one recurring bill (netflix) going to this card and paid it monthly, but with them moving to Cap One I think I'm going to cancel it or at the minimum put my netflix on a different card and just shred my Cabela's card to keep from using it.

Same here. I’m sure they’re making money off me somehow, but it’s not because I’m carrying a balance. I use it all year and do my Christmas shopping with the points.

I wonder if it's similar to a casino situation. The one winner is more than covered by fifty people that lost. Maybe the one person that works the system is covered by fifty people paying interest on a monthly balance. :dunno:

Guess I am looking for a better card as well. I was going to apply for a Capital 1, but will not now. I got an AmEx from Lowes for the extra savings at the store. They have other savings as well, but not much.

I do not always pay my cards off at the end of the month. The AmEx card is high interest so once my big project is done I will shelve it. Have been paying it off with funds saved in the bank, but they are dwindling fast.

Anybody have any good deals on cards?

Well that and they do make money off of every transaction anyway. The card company makes money off of everyone (including the retailer who accepts the card as payment, who then passes that cost along back to the consumer in the cost of goods sold), whether you pay interest or not (pay it off each month). The $ back cards just happen to pass some of that back to you. That said, I have some $ back cards and use them for everything I can and pay them off. There is no sense in doing that all with a debit/check card and giving up the cash back and letting the back make all that $, and having less protections along the way, IMO.

Biggest thing for folks who are talking about cancelling a card is that the drop in available credit can actually drop your credit score. So be careful with that, especially if you will be purchasing a house, etc at some point in the near future, looking for a job (yes they pull credit checks in some cases), or have auto insurance (yes they pull credit reports and it factors into your insurance rates as I understand it).

I primarily use a Discover Card. I get a standard cash back percentage on all purchases and then they offer additional cash back on certain types of transactions for a specific time. I also opened a Discover savings account which I move all cash back to. At the time I opened it the interest rate for the savings was one of the highest available for a standard savings.

Didn't use credit cards when younger, but now they are a matter of convenience so I don't have to carry amounts of cash, but just the basics.
It really doesn't matter to me that I get hundreds back every year from my Sams and Costco cards: a nice perk.
Of course I pay them off every month: I believe paying interest is INSANE, unless, of course, a major purchase is needed.
I tell the kids at school in teaching Economics: buy a tire that goes bad for a car that takes you back and forth from work, but don't you dare by pizza with it.
Some cannot be trusted with a credit card: they think it represents money they have to spend: WRONG!
It represents giving up freedom in the future.
Been there done that and I learned decades ago that I'd rather have nothing and owe nothing rather than have everything and owe everything.
The, "its only money" crowd, would violently disagree, but they probably have a discretionary income that I never knew anything about or I would be the same.

Same here. We put everything we can on our credit card. Even pay some of our utility bills with it. We collect air travel miles then fly for free every year to visit my son who is stationed out in CA. And we still have points left over. If my wife and I weren't so tight...er conservative:) we could jump on a plane fly to some new place, have dinner, do a little sightseeing and fly back all on points earned just spending money we have to spend anyway.
