Two kids made a threat. The police then went to an uncle's house and took his guns. Guns were locked up in the home.

"We executed what is called an 'extreme risk order' (Monday) night at a relative's house who had all these firearms," Hanley said. "They were locked up (in the home), but one of these kids said he had access to them and could get them. So we took advantage of that extreme risk order statute that was passed. We needed to separate the person from their ability to do this."

"Hanley on Tuesday morning wasn't sure of the exact inventory of the more than 10 confiscated weapons, but said they largely consisted of hunting rifles and handguns. He doesn't believe any semi-automatic assault rifles or shotguns were among the bunch."

The fight is at our doorstep folks. We are in greater danger now than when Obama was in office. You can lose your rights, without due process, because someone else said something bad. What's next, confiscating your guns because someone got busted planning to burgle your house? These red flag laws are more dangerous than mag bans and AWBs because they'll use it for every stupid thing and you'll be lucky to ever get anything back.

I was just reading about this same thing on another forum, and it just blows my mind that there are loopholes in the law like this.

Can you imagine having to give up all of your firearms because of a stupid comment like that? Next, they are going to start paying people to make stuff up so we all lose our guns.

I wonder if the law has a provision for giving the guns back after a certain amount of time or if the person who set off the red flag "gets better", or if this is just a forever thing?

How can the government justify taking our personal property like this? What if we agree to buy a new safe that the fink can't get into, can we keep them then?

    This is just ridiculous.

This is the next step up from "swatting" someone. I've also hear talk of a national red flag law & Republicans are all on board with it too. :xmad:

Exactly what I expected of this outcome. I wonder what the cost are, in terms of time and money, on this for the falsely accused. This will pin some people in the cornee and I can see some might not be willing to go through all of this and instead rather lose their life for it.

I can see some attorneys lining up for a nice challenge, and payday.

When someone makes a false statement about using your guns in a planned crime and the police use that to take them, what happens to the person making the false statement? I've heard of the "swatting" reference, how are those false reports handled?

So I wonder if all the guns were locked up in a safe, would they still have confiscated them? Make the kids prove they can open the safe tp get access, if they can’t would tell the government to F off. This is way over the line, slippery slope my friends, slippery slope.

Don't tell anyone what you got. Especially family.

    Problem solved.

Hardly. You're out and about and someone sees you carry (whether open or concealed) and makes up a lie about you being aggressive gets your license plate number and reports you to the police. You're still screwed. All based on what someone said, that's all, based on what someone said.

Don't ever take a gun out of the safe. Don't ever take a friend or family member to the range. Don't be seen carrying a range bag or rifle case from the house to the car. Right, it's just that easy.

Realistically, don't blab unnecessarily, don't flaunt stuff, and keep everything that's not in use in a locked COMBINATION safe.

Despite the misquote, you realize that had nothing to do with red flag laws right? Man, the TDS is strong here.

I'd bet you the cold drink of your choice that he'd sign it, if it came across his desk. This seems to be the answer to the call to "just do something" about mentally troubled people and their access to guns. Republicans are enamored with this just as much as the gun grabbers.

Ok, I read the article. Well, if the details were accurate, I think this is the right move. Even if the firearms were locked and the juvenile has access to them, this was the right thing to do. But the whole process could be polished. My aplogies for jumping conclusion before reading the article. I'm only human.

This is just the next step towards total disarming and a socialist Euro style Gov.

There is a polished process, called a restraining or protective order. That is due process, this is infringement and overreach. If the kid is a threat remove the kid and charge him with intimidation or something to remove him from the situation. Due process is all that stands between freedom and oppression at the hands of a tyrannical government. Now they have free will to abandon protocol and due process because of someones feels. It's wrong from every angle.
