Hi, I am not too much into ammo numbers.Went to gun show and bought a box of AMERICAN EAGLE 5.56X45 120 round box.The guy made special reference to it being GREEN TIP.What is so special about this really ? Probably should know but I dont. It is FMJ.Thanks for feedback in advance.

"Green Tips" mean nothing to me after I saw a guy with a green rattle can down at Knob Creek and a stencil he had made to quickly paint up a bunch of rounds.

They could have been doing this for a couple of non-nefarious reasons:
    1) Factory seconds or overrun that were never loaded and thus did not have a tip color applied.
    2) Pulled bullets that were tumbled to remove the tar sealant from the bullet...which also removes the paint on the tip

Regarding #1 - fun fact: the projectile color is applied AFTER the round is assembled. I have about 6,000 64gr tracer bullets that have no tip color for exactly this reason. Beautiful, pristine, never loaded tracer projos. The ones with colored tips are either pull down or painted/repainted by a reseller. Sometimes stuff does get faked, but in my experience, painting or repainting of the genuine article is far more common.

    I haven't bought Green tip/M855 in years.

It dings up steel plates and it is sometimes prohibited at ranges.

I never found it's accuracy to be that great either.
