Hoping someone can help me identify this old firearm. It has some "interesting" stamps on
it, including some Japanese(?) markings. I believe it is a .410 *BUT* I'm not sure if that's
the original spec... Any info would be appreciated!

Should be regiment markings on the buttplate from others I’ve have seen. Your 4th picture down says model 71 on it with a letter in front. They are not Japanese markings but German proof and inspector stamps. Not very familiar with these guns so hopefully others can tell you more or correct any info I may be mistaken about.

Thanks for the quick replies. So this thing is really from 1877?! I assume it's nearly "worthless" because it's been modified and is in rough condition, but would appreciate
any guestimates of its value. I'm considering just cleaning it up and putting it on display...I have no need for it as a weapon and would be afraid to fire it anyway. :)

Big Tanker has it right. It's a model 1871 Mauser military rifle that has been sporterized. If it is still in it's original caliber, it would be 11mm Mauser (11.15x60R). Some were converted to shotguns after being surplused - hence it is a good question about whether the barrel is still rifled or not. Sadly, the best use for this gun is probably just parts to repair other better condition 1871 Mausers (parts aren't exactly cheap for these, so I'm not saying it's worthless junk by any means).
