Ok so I have a pistol for sale in the classifieds. I have a site supporter member contact me saying they would like to purchase. Thing is they are 18 and say they have a carry license. So state law says 21 before buying a handgun but can have their carry license at 18.

Would you sell sell to them?

    Thanks,
    edg

Indiana state law says no such thing about the minimum age being 21. Minimum age to purchase a handgun from a private seller is 18 for both state and federal law. The 21 age limit is for dealers.

State law says they cannot buy from a dealer but can be gifted or buy from a private party.

I really like freedom and strongly support the second amendment so i would likely sell to him upon seeing his Ltch and matching Indiana dl in this instance(generally just ask to see indiana dl and ask if they are a proper person) unless i got some bad mojo while discussing potential sale or during meet up, but thats just my freedom loving self. :patriot:

Been in this situation. Sold to a courteous young man with a new LTCH who was just a little shy of 21. Not a problem for me, the legal situation is quite clear. Indiana law imposes no additional limits, and federal law applies to FFL purchases.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I'm not saying no, but I wouldn't make that decision strictly on legalities. I might even err on the side of caution and plead dumb.

I certainly disagree with those who would not sell any legal firearm to an 18 year old! I follow the law regarding firearms to the LETTER. I would not sell to anyone I had reasonable cause to believe they were not legal to possess a firearm. However it is perfectly legal to sell any legal firearm to any resident of Indiana that is 18 years of age. The ONLY information I would want when selling a firearm is on a persons driver license and or ID card - AGE and PROOF of Indiana residency!

Why in the Hexx would I or anyone here want to discourage any young man or lady from participating in gun ownership / sport shooting / self protection / hunting? It appears there are several here that fears doing something that will get them in trouble - but as I have posted here several times the laws (both Federal and State) cannot hold you responsible for ANYTHING that a firearm is used for illegally after you sell to someone you do not KNOW or have REASONABLE DOUBT are illegal to possess firearms. You have NO DUTY to investigate a person ~ in fact the Federal Government does not allow you to directly run a background check.

This is an example of why the 50 post rule has some merit. It gives a bit of an opportunity to get a certain "feel" for the type of person that you might one day deal with in a classified transaction.

Of course if they pony up for a site supporter it doesn't really give you much to go on other than the fact that they are willing to put some skin in the game.

    ^This.
If it’s for sale publicly, it’s for sale to the public, as long as they meet the legal standards.
Are people cowering under the gaze of ‘the man’ and want to play it extra extra safe? That’s the only thing I can think of, because if you just want to sell it to someone you know you wouldn’t publicly advertise it.
