I recently moved and changed address. I have not yet received my new Drivers License in the mail. But the BMV gave me a printed sheet of paper as a 'temporary' license with my updated address.
Do I need to wait until I get my new license before I can purchase a gun (at a gun store)? Any other issues I might have?

I mostly lurk and don't post much here. I really appreciate any input or info

Yep. Most gun shops won't accept the paper copy.

Some shops will hold it for you if you explain your situation. If not, see if the shop can put it in "lay-a-way" for you until you get your new license. Offer to pay all but $1.

the last paper copy i saw at the shop was useable, he'd moved from out of state. its the first paper copy that was useable by itself (that ive seen)

all the other paper (temporary) licenses had the first 5 numbers x'd out (i.e. XXX-XX-1234) and therefore were unaccetable UNLESS you had your old plastic copy to use with it!, so if you had the old plastic drivers license with your old address AND the paper temp license, it's useable!

used to be, if you move from out of state, they kept your old license, and gave you a temp indiana license, and that wouldn't work for a gun sale.

NOW for some utter bull$**t!, I stopped in a cvs pharmacy, and tried to but some booze, my 23 year old daughter was with me, and they asked to see her license, she had her temporary license, and they wouldn't accept it!, I told her go to the car, and get her Indiana gaming badge (shes a cook in a casino, and since theres a restaurant on the casino floor, she has to have gaming badge)… its harder to get a gaming badge, than your Indiana ltch!...and cvs wouldn't take it! (her gaming badge) the badge (issued by the Indiana state gaming commission) is considered a state id, and is acceptable to use to buy a gun! (when used with a temporary license), but not a bottle of vodka!

so I left without my vodka

If you have the paper interim license with your current address and your previous license with the complete number on it you're good to go to purchase a firearm.

I wouldn't expect any retail store or grocery store to have workers that know how to check a gaming badge. Most of them don't even know how to check a passport. The workers are told to only accept state ID's, driver's licenses, military ID (even though they probably don't know how to check DOB on it) and passports.

I stopped at a liquor store right after I left cvs a bought my vodka (had a bad day at work and really needed a drink!) and told the clerk what happened, she said that they would have accepted it(the gaming badge) with her temporary drivers license!

the clerk at cvs called the manager, and the manager said they couldn't accept it, had I gone to another cvs (my sister works nights there, I would have been fine), OR had I left my daughter in the car, I would have been fine

I wouldn't have an issue with the liquor purchase but I'm not sure where you get the "is acceptable to use to buy a gun" part. Felony exceptions are allowed for the gaming badge, but that would not fly on a LTCH or a purchase.

Thanks for the info. I can confirm that my Current state issued drivers license plus the paper license from the state was acceptable and I was able to purchase without a problem.

Just to pile on...I've bought about half a dozen firearms through an ffl in the last year and my driver's license address doesn't match my residence. All he needed to see was another government document with my residence address on it.

I work in a gun shop, so the nics check would (should) catch a felony
