I visited the Cody Museum a few years ago with the NSSF Industry Masters and we were given access to some behind the scenes areas. Definitely worth the visit if you get out to that area.

I listened to the curator being interviewed on Patriot radio the other day. The museum sounds like a “must see”.

I found it interesting that it was stated that you could not see it all in one day... and in fact a regular adult entrance pass is good for 2 days!

I'd love to head out that direction. But it's so flipping far that driving (with two little kids) is essentially out of the question.

And flying that direction out of Indy is so freaking expensive.

It's cheaper to fly into SLC than Billings or Cody - but then it's a 7 hour drive north out of SLC to get to Cody.

We'd love to visit that part of the world. I want to see Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, etc... Just don't really have the budget.

It was a fantastic place to visit 4 years ago. Took me 2 days to do just the firearms part of the museum. I took my time and slobbered over everything. If you ever go Westward, make Cody a 2 or 3 day stop. There is much more to see than just the museum.

Depends on the age of the kids. A lot of outdoor things to do. If you camp, it will be much cheaper with more places to stay. Stay off the Interstate as much as possible, the variations of driving with slowing down for small towns helps break up the driving and give the kids something to see. Easier to stop for potty breaks as rest stops in SD, ND, and WY are far and few between on the Interstate. If the kids are school age, then read up on Rogers and Clark expedition, (Undaunted Courage by Ambrose). Stop at historical markers, as many as you can, it really breaks up the drive and gives you a sense of how the land was settled.

Places to see in no particular order

    Mississippi River
    Decorah, IA and German fest
    Corn Palace, Mitchell, SD
    Missouri River
    Bad Lands, SD
Wall Drug, SD (don't go when Sturgis rally is ongoing)
    Mount Rushmore
    Mammoth, SD
    Devil's Tower, WY
Big Horns, WY (take 14 over the mountains)
    Cody, WY
    Yellowstone, Tetons
Snake River (late in the summer is pretty calm for rafting)
Craters of the Moon, ID (where the Apollo astronauts trained)

Let me know if you want more...
