Not jealous of this part though:
"included 23 counts of possession of assault weapons"
"Other charges include 17 counts of transfer of handgun with no licensed firearms dealer, 15 counts of unlawful assault weapon rifle activity, seven counts of possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun and two counts of possession of a destructive device"
    Ouch!

Are these California specific laws he broke? Skimming the article I don't see where anything they mentioned is illegal but that is based on my "Indiana" understanding of the laws.

I’m guessing he was doing a lot of buying, selling and trading beyond the scope of his C&R license? Not my field of expertise just a WAG
That actually does does sound like a good guess. I keep thinking in terms of not needing a FFL to transfer/ sell a gun but forget the issue of it, at some point, being construed as "running a business" vs collector/owner.

I got smacked with buying/selling/trading too many cars and bikes back in the day. The state wants its fee's and due process in monitoring your business. It is hard to say "NO" that as not me when your back yard has 8 cars in it and none are in your name.

Same with flipping fire arms. Only the penalty's a far stiffer.

    What is up now?

I attempt to read the article listed.
My screen is covered by a white page from "USA TODAY" blocking everything on screen.

When this story first broke the media reported that he was selling guns to known criminals and gangbangers. That's how the cops first found out about him. Don't know if its true or not that's just what i heard.

the article does not make a mention of that.
it does say that he was buying/selling handguns to others.
that others man be the gangbangers from the earlier articles.
