My brother tbhausen will be in attendance. Although not mentioned in this article it sounds like there might be a disturbance within the Force regarding the kind of reception Trump may get considering he’s never served (due to bone spurs?)...

My hunch is he will be received warmly and the dissenters will stand down. Looking forward to an AAR from tbhausen.

There's a difference between never severing and purposely avoiding serving. I think if there's an issue, it will be the latter, not the former, that people will have issue with.

Only a small portion of of the nation has ever served in the military. I served and continued my service after active duty, until retirement, in the Active Reserve.

Here is some information about participation in the military:

The share of the U.S. population with military experience is declining. In 2016, 7% of U.S. adults were veterans, down from 18% in 1980, according to the Census Bureau. This drop coincides with decreases in active duty personnel. Over the past half-century, the number of people on active duty has dropped significantly, from 3.5 million in 1968, during the draft era, to 1.3 million (or less than 1% of all U.S. adults) in today’s all-volunteer force. The military draft ended in 1973.

As of 2014, the VA estimates there were 22 million military veterans in the U.S. population. If you add their figures on veterans to the active personnel numbers mentioned above, 7.3 percent of all living Americans have served in the military at some point in their lives.
