Okay so I ordered a 10mm and should have it in a week or two. I already ordered some carry ammo in Horrandy and Gold dot plus a little range ammo like Magtech but I would like to buy a 1,000 rounds of something. I am looking at SGAMMO.com and see Magtech has 1000 rounds of HP for like $300 around 1230FPS. I am a little confused as to what FPS I should be looking for. I see Underwood loaded up to 1700 FPS but I don't want to buy that stuff for the range. Is the 1230 good for 10mm? I will never reload my own rounds so I am just looking for an idea of how many FPS I should be looking for when I am buying range ammo so that I at least know I am shooting a 10mm and not a 40 cal

The short answer is something around 1250 will give you close to the original load. Sig makes a nice round.

I only carry Underwood Bonded JHP 180 grain in both my Glock 20 and my Tanfoglio P Carry. I bought 1000 rounds of the Magtech JHP for range use. Really feel the difference between the two when shooting.

Op, depends on the bullet weight. 1250fps with a 200gr bullet is a fairly stout load. 1250fps using a 135gr bullet is anemic

Not all 10mm Is the same. Magtec is maybe not the hottest but it sure is well above some of the watered down offerings from a lot of companies

It's a good round. Good luck

I also only carry Underwood. 180 Gr XTP for me. Underwood is one of the few companies that actually make origional 10 mm power loads.

They have many weight offerings. I found I shoot the 180 gr the best and most accurate out of my Glock 20.

10mm is like 9mm, but one louder.

For defensive ammo, I use Underwood.
They have a variety of loadings which I'm sure you can find one's that work best for you.

One thing we are overlooking here is what gun you ordered. You mentioned carrying it but, that still is very broad. You probably won't want to shoot a glock 29 all day with 1300+fps. Put those in a S&W 610 with a 4 inch barrel and try not to smile.

Underwood and Sig are what I keep in the secure ammo cabinet with other offerings just to see. A friend loads out some really nice dusk fire show rounds for me.

All I can say about MagTech is they suck. We have had some really crappy experiences with them searching for "Deals" to stock up. Horrible rounds. Just horrible.
Granted this was a few years ago but that was enough for me. If you have a really nice gun put like and same ammo in it.

    JMHO on this subject.

    Also.....what brand/model are you getting.....?????

I have heard too many bad things about the Magtech over the years.
I will make guilty confession though. I do buy some S&B when it is on sale. Yes it is a bit anemic. But it can be very cheap at times compared to the legitimate 10mm. I have also never had an issue with it and I have fired thousands of rounds of it, if I include all calibers.

We had issue with S&B using very hard primers. If you diddle with your ignition controls to run a light responsive trigger in a 1911 or a CZ this can and will cause issues. Cause and effect pretty much and no knock on S&B.

I think they have gone to softer primers in 45 as I have ran a lot of it through my 1911s and CZ97 and, well, you know the triggers. :-)

    Never ran SB 10 mm.

    ....but buyer beware.

Never had any issues and with Magtec myself and a couple 10mm folks I know use it and the 10mm Magtechs while no Buffalo Bore or Double Tap is warmer than most factory stuff Just my experience
