Hey guys, I know some of you have ruger 22/45 .22lr pistols.I am wondering about if this pistol can do head shots on coyotes consistently at 50 yards if I do my part.I want to get this one because of upper and lower rails for sights and light. If this pistol cant do that tight of group, I might have to go with a smith wesson model 41 with upper rail only and no light rail on bottom.I plan on using segmented 32grain bullets from CCI.With ruger I can put a ACCU-SHOT MONOPOD on lower rail for stability, thanks for input on idea.:):

My older 22/45s are capable of that level of accuracy and I would think the newer Tactical would be as well. I mostly use 40 grain for accuracy. Not familiar with the CCI 32 grain segmented bullet.

I think you'll find that, by far, the most limiting factor in this will be the shooter.

A bonafide pistol scope will help a great deal.

50 yards is hard to even resolve the head of a coyote unless it's open, and the coyote is still.

Be it pest control or hunting, you owe it to the coyote to be sure that you won't just maim it to run and die a horrible death hours or days later.

I would think if you're wanting to shoot totes at 50 yards a rifle sure would be more suited for that

This. and if MUST be a rimfire, I'd opt for a 22WMR or 17HMR. LR is a bit small for a dog sized animal unless you are talking about a SHTF situation.

As stated, they certainly can be accurate enough.

If we didn't see the group that produced, how would we know? Man sized silly-wet is a pretty big tgt at 80 yds.

I have and have had several rimfire pistols capable of head shots on squirrels at 50 yds. The question always was, am I capable of headshots with a pistol at 50 yds. Still trying to understand why he's limiting himself with the pistol. Sounds like a bad choice if dead coyote is the true end game.

I own more than several, suppressed and unsuppressed, over the past 25 or so years. RIght ammo, right conditions, right light, yeah, maybe.

As for me, I know it's just a coyote, but if I needed to kill it and avoid suffering, I'd want a rifle.

No worries. I was plinking on steel and couldn’t have distinguished my hits from others (assuming it was taking paint off of leaving a mark at that distance).

You guys are exactly right, at 50 yards that is a stretch for most of us with a pistol. If I was going to shoot 50 yards continuously for yotes I would be all over the .22mag rifle AT LEAST.I have a straight measured 30yard shot to edge of cornfield, and I am sitting in a treestand in woods so I know my exact distance, I dont intend to shoot much past 30yards with the 22/45 ruger with red dot sight, for further out shooting, I am using a ENCORE pistol in 308 with Burris 2x7 scope and need be, I can put on my buttstock.I was just wondering if this was a accurate barrel for some shorter range hunting.

Through rhe snout, lower jaw or clip an eye.....its a head shot right?

    You want spine or brain.

    2nd thread on this nonsense.

Just shut up already, do whatever the hell ya want.

But please keep count of how many you kill, wound and miss.

Who knows .....some of us hunters might be proven wrong, we might have a Masters winner in our midst too

Btw....might go try for a yote this weekend myself.
    Use a .22 also.
    Centerfire.
    Rifle

Few around, they aint stupid....maximize the chance of killing it. Not playing around.

But if some folks want to add more sport, so be it.
I think a .22 rf pistol doing headshots at 50 yards is silly.

Bigger target would be heart lungs.

But wth.....i dont like headshots on any critters.

He didn't call it an SBR.

Seen folks do it without stamp, even w big red lettering on box next to their bench.

Can run rifle scopes on handguns. Most don't.
Wonder what 2-7X is on the Encore pistol.

The way this thread is, wouldn't surprise me an EER.
Go great with a buttstock LOL.

    Ive had two 22/45 8".
One irons one w 2x leupold.
They were around under 2" at 50 yards.
Dunno if a 4x would have tightened groups.

    Best was my 10.5" AMT.

Dime sized groups at 25.....irons. But that w WW Supermax. hyper V, discontinued.

Hyper V is hard on MK stuff. Not good for a steady diet.

Wonder what .22 lr HV and Hyper V does on a 10" pistol?

    Compare that to .22 rifle.

Then .22 mag pistol and finally . 22 mag rifle.

Yotes can get up to 50 #. A semi auto . 22 mag rifle might be a decent short range rig. Id like one for fox.

    But HK 300 are $$$.

Need to try out a CZ
