gun vise

i,m trying out together my own gun vise i bought a $20.00 wood vise at harbor fright i think i will attach 3/4" pine to each jaw and cover them and the screw with leather or some very soft rubber. does anyone have any good ideas??

Make multiple jaws for it with different materials to hold your work.

Gun vise?? just do what I do and use Channel Locks. They have a faster adjustment time.

Personally I like my used swivel bench vice over a drill press vice. Having some depth to work with gives more versatility but bolting it to a board is handier than a pocket on a shirt

I have this vise in my gun room for working on firearms and doing small tasks. I don't think you'd want to use a great deal of force but this little thing has been so handy for me. You can put things in any position so you can work on them.

I put a chink in DoggyDaddy's Harbor Freight wood vice putting a gas block on one of my Colt AR15s.
It's a decent vice and I learned... or was reminded you get what you pay for.
Baby it, think out every move, and it should be find.

Hell Harry, if you did, I didn't even remember that, and it hasn't caused me any problems. I'm just glad the coronavirus wasn't around back then or I'd have to disinfect my vice.

Yep, got this $17 drill press vice at Harbor Freight:

I lay mine on a silicone soldering mat on top my white synthetic work table and it grabs on great.
Do a search on amazon for 4-inch vise covers or similar term and you'll get a choice of about any material and/or texture you can imagine.
