Any Ingoers remember when your local hardware was your gun shop. There was also Gambles, Western Auto, WWGrant, Sears and such.

Dad purchased me my first shotgun from Coast to Coast. I can remember several small hardware stores stocking guns.

Ace Hardware in Lake Station, Indiana still sells guns and Ace Hardware in Hobart, Indiana still does FFL transfers.

When I was 12 or 13 I bought a 22 rifle from Western Auto. I couldn't buy any ammo because I was too young.

I have a good 12g Western Auto pump with a deer slug barrel...I estimate it to be from the early 1960's....it's killed a boxcar full of deer. Bought it used about 25 years ago for $75

Dad bought me my first gun when I was 12-13 (1958-9), a Winchester Model 67, from Swinford's Texaco, about 5600 N Michigan Rd, Indy. Lapos Hardware was 4 blocks farther north. We could get a box of .22 short for a quarter there. I have a 12 gauge pump that has both JC Higgins and Sears & Roebuck model numbers. The Western Auto that was on the SE corner of Washington & Alabama in the late 60s sold guns. Diagonally across from Police HQ. Em-Roe Sporting Goods, 209 W Washington St, Indy had tons of guns. They were much like the original Galyan's Plainfield store.

Found a un opened box of .22 shorts in my garage a few months ago with a .69 price tag from Central Hardware. It was located at 31S and Shelby St. in Marion County, had a big sporting goods dept. Mid to late 1960's.

Also visited Sayer's Hardware in Greenwood, had a nice gun display as soon as you entered the building. He loved to trade, ah the good old days.

Got my Revelation 12 GA pump at the Western Auto in Princeton and my Glenfield 60 right down the street at Williams Shoe Hospital back in the late 70's.
